Restoring Individual CMP in MOSS 2007
I've a backup which has shared folders of all the users e.g. Shred users and there are 50 users. Is there a way i can restore individual files? how does cmp works.. do i need all the cmps ?

I am afrade you cannot restore individual files. I used for that my DEV server. I imported cmp on DEV and after that I copied required files on PROD manually.

well I've tried importing to but that doesn't work for all the exports. I was able to import most of the data but there is a 32 gigs of .cmp files and it restores only 3 gigs.

Hi Vministrator,
I'm sorry to say that there's no means by which we can grab specific files and backup/restore them, out-of-the-box in SharePoint. That's not to suggest you couldn't do so through the Object Model, provided an API existed to allow this action to be coded
(you can see more in the SharePoint Software Development Kit -- the link will follow).
Products like Data Protection Manager (DPM) are good at drilling right down to the file level and pulling out specific files as well.
At this point, it would be best to restore in another environment (this will restore all the CMP chunks for a specific backup) and move the specific files you need back into place. I wish I had a more convenient answer for you, Vministrator. Things change
in SharePoint Server 2010, where you have granularity and can backup specific lists. However, I'm glad you're getting backups -- it's easy to forget to schedule this.
(I should also add that if your backup makes several .cmps, you'll need to use all of those .cmps in the restore!)

thnaks for the reply.
well I'm using Quest Recovery tool now to extract the data (new supported feature in moss 2010 too). At least this will help me to recover and cover my butt.

Thanks for letting me know, Vministrator. I hope you're well, and your 3rd party tool does exactly what you need it to do. Remember, there's always the SDK if you feel you need to write SharePoint tools of your own. Thanks for your reply!
