Resource Names field drops last 3 characters of entered information

Hello,

We are having an issue with Project 2013 Professional that when any word or set of characters is entered in the Resource Names fields the last three characters of that word disappear. For example if testing is typed in the field only test will show.

We've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Project 2013. We tried deleting the global.mpt file under the users profile and removing the registry keys but none of those solutions have worked so far.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi JRenn,

Very interesting question, I have not heard of this happening before.

Have you tried looking in the 'Resource Sheet' view to see if the 'name' appears incorrectly there too?

Have you tried creating your 'Project Team' in the 'resource sheet' view then using the dropdown menu in the 'Resource Names' Column to select a resource?

Let me know how you get on

JRenn,

First of all, do you have SP1 for Project 2013 installed? If not, install it.

Does this happen with all files in Project 2013 or just one particular file. If it is just one particular file, the file itself may be corrupt. Try saving as XML and then re-open in Project. Note, you will lose any custom formatting using this method.

One more thing is worth a try. In Project 2010 if the option to allow edit directly in a cell was off, typed entries were truncated. I don't have Project 2013 so I don't know if this issue still exists but it's easy to check out. The option should be under File/Options/Advanced group/Edit subgroup.

Hi Tom,

The name does appear correctly in the resource sheet view and I can create a name in the resource sheet view but when switching back to the Gantt Chart view it drops the last 3 characters.

Hi John,

Yes the latest version is installed of Project 2013. This happens with any new Project or previously created Project file.

The edit directly in a cell option is already checked on.

JRenn,

Dumb question but did you try expanding the width of the Resource Names column?

Was there any solution to this problem?

I just installed project 2013 standard and am encountering almost the same issue. The last 3 characters of the resource field are missing in the gantt chart. They are present correctly in the resource sheet view. Similar problem in the predecessors column - the last few characters are not visible.

Thanks.

SHaider7,

Okay, same question applies. Is your version of Project 2013 fully updated? Note, just because you just acquired it doesn't mean it is all updated. For reference see the following link: http://blogs.technet.com/b/projectsupport/p/msp13.aspx

And just to cover the bases, if you expand the column width, do the missing characters appear?

I never type in resources in the resource names field in the entry table of the Gantt chart view.

Reason: it is not the right place to do it, even if the software allows it. It is too easy to create duplicate resources but with spelling differences. It provides no control over the resource type (resources entered like this are always work type resources) or the std rate or calendar or anything else.

Do you get this problem if you create the resource in the resource sheet view?

I remember such a similar issue with arabic and/or hebrew Project version.

Please ensure having the last update installed, starting from here:
