Requiremen to monitor Windows server 2008 R2 using MOM 2005
Hello Team, Can you please let me know, if Windows server 2008 R2 can be monitored using MOM 2005. I have downloaded the MP from the link below. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=b516e614-814a-4277-abf9-8d5315d2ba06 Please advise, if I import this MP, will there be an issue as the existing MPS on MOM 2005 were imported in the year of 2006. Regards, Subhash.

Hi Sadly not - there is no Windows 2008 R2 MP for MOM 2005 and MOM 2005 is now out of support and no new management packs will be released for it: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-IE/operationsmanagergeneral/thread/7ed1771e-ef46-4686-8398-5641f700a7c2 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/operationsmanagergeneral/thread/626fe616-2d28-4d91-acb3-a7bb4fe04752 Sorry I can't be of more help. Hi That is an Active Directory Management Pack - it isn't a base windows MP and doesn't cover Windows 2008 R2. The response by Rob Kheufus on the first url I listed gives a full answer: "Officially, 1. No, we do not support MOM 2005 on Server 2008 R2 for infra and agents. 3. no, MOM 2005 is end of life (extended support only). Microsoft will not release any new management packs for this product. Please see the following for more info. http://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/?LN=en-us&p1=2548&x=17&y=18 FYI...I own the support statement for the Operations Manager product. It does not get more "official" then this. :) " Cheers Graham View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

MOM 2005 doesn't handle x64 very well and there are several limitations (think X64 performance, event logs, etc). Best bet is to step up to SCOM because MOM 2005 just won't cut the mustard for x64 monitoring and EVERYTHING is moving to X64..then the cloud shortly thereafter apparently. ;-)Regards, Blake Email: mengotto<at>hotmail.com Blog: http://discussitnow.wordpress.com/

Hi Hopefully we have answered your question - you will need to move off MOM 2005 if you want to monitor windows 2008 R2 - so I'll mark the thread as answered. If you would like further assistance then please feel free to re-open. Regards GrahamView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/
