Reportserver and manager partly funtion. Error: rsItemNotFound
I have installed on a new server SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, and trying to get the Reportserver working. After initial errors due to wrong encryption, i now have the reportserver partly working, but still not full. Accessing <computername>/reportserver results in an error: * No se encuentra el elemento '/'. (rsItemNotFound) (sorry, spanish version here). All is done on the localhost, where the SQL server and database are also located. Reportserver sql database comes from another server. The idea is to have a copy on a differente server. Earlier tried to reinstall Reportserver , didnt help. Any help is really appreciated. Sicco

Okay, let's see if we can figure this out. It looks like your Engles is a lot better than my Espanol. First, did you start the SQL Server Reporting Services Configuration tool? It can resolve any number of issues. Next, did you install SQL Server using a named instance or using the default instance? If the former (as most of us do) you need to add the instance name when referencing the Report Manager page as in: http://<your system>/Reports_SS2K8R2 Where <your system> is the name of your system (local host) does not always work and "SS2K8R2" is the instance name I use (yours might be different). Progressive is hosting my webinar on Reporting Services that helps developers get a jump start on this configuration process and all of the major aspects of Reporting Services. The next offering is March 8th, 2011. See my blog for details. __________________________________________________________________ William Vaughn Mentor, Consultant, Trainer, MVP http://betav.com http://betav.com/blog/billva http://www.hitchhikerguides.net Hitchhikers Guide to Visual Studio and SQL Server (7th Edition) Please click the Mark as Answer button if a post solves your problem!

Hi William, Thanks for your reply. Yes i used the configuration tool (a lot). We use a non-default instance for the RS Instance. The name is equal to the machine name, which is well configured in the RS config files. I guess also thats why the thing is working already partly. My (rather amateur) guess is that the thing has to do with permissions, looking at the error log. However, everything is done under an admin account, logins to the DB on sa (access to the DB doesnt seem to be the problem). And I gave full permission on the RS folder (and its subfolders, child, etc) to these users, So, any new hint is welcome! ;-)

Allright, problem (surprisingly) easily solved. Created a new RS Database through the config tool, and things work fine. Aparantly the DB RS creates when installing, is different (or wrongly configured?) then when creating a new one after install. Could also be that a new DB is needed after changing encryption keys (?). s.
