Reporting Services very slow in SharePoint
Hi I have twoinstances of Reporting Services on two different computers - One is running Native mode and the other one SharePoint integrated mode. When running the exact same report, I can see in the Execution Log table that the rendering time (TimeRendering) in native is 0.2 secs where in SharePoint it is about 30 secs. Why is SharePoint rendering so slow - What can I do to optimize that? Regards, Millers

I'm experiencing similar differences and have not been able to find anything conclusive on tuning a SSRS integration with MOSS. In my case it concerns SSRS 2K5, MOSS 2007. Any feedback is appreciated. Regards, Gerard

There are some known issues related to SharePoint performance, especially for reports which are heavily using interactivity features like Drillthrough. You may want to consider reducing the # of drillthrough items in your report. If you are on SQL Server 2005, and you have a non-production machine you might want to consider deploying the CTP3 release of SQL Server 2005: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D22317E1-BC64-4936-A14B-7A632B50A4CA&displaylang=en Which has some performance fixes specifically targetting SharePoint Integrated Mode.

We are having the same issue. What is concerning is that there does not seem to be an answer for this? Does Microsoft respond to these forums? If Microsoft allows you to configure an integrated mode with SharePoint and SQL Server 2008, it needs to perform!? We are running SharePoint 2010 Foundation integrated with SQL Server 2008 R2 with Analysis Services data sources running on SQL Server 2005 SP 3. As with everyone else, we are seeing slow performance when running these reports through SharePoint - in the IDE it runs fine and super fast. We are currently developing the solution and have chosen the SharePoint/SQL Server 2008 solution over 3rd party applications - if we cannot get this to perform we will have to resort to the 3rd party software! Has anybody got any ideas as to how we can resolve this?

We are running MOSS 2010, SSRS 2008R2 and find the same problem. When we install the SSRS into the Dashboard Designer and go against SSRS (native mode) as oppsoed to integrated mode, the report returns in ~ 2 seconds. Within SSRS integrated mode, it takes over 30 seconds to load the parameters and then another 40 seconds to load the report. Source for these reports is SSAS and in the designer, it is as fast as through the dashboard. I am not comfortable with the responsiveness from Microsoft (as there is none) to this issue and my take on it is that they do not know.

We are also running MOSS 2010 and SSRS 2008R2. We have the same issues with reports lag time increasing greatly. Looking through the logs we are seeing more time spent on getting properities and security than in rendering our reports. Responsiveness is very critical to our applications operation and this is having a negative effect on our business. Hopefully someone at Microsoft will pick up this thread and respond.

We can confirm that we are seeing the exact same problems. We are using Sharepoint 2010 with SSRS 2008 R2 and the reports are just painstakingly slow. I've managed to locate this support-article on the topic but it really doesn't say a whole lot other than there being a lot of SOAP calls being run in integrated mode: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2216504. We are typically seeing overhead between 5 and 10 seconds for every single report even if the rendering time is less than a few tenths of a second. Really frustrating...Lumbago www.thefirstsql.com

Try using the SSRS web part within Performance Point web part. Let me know if that works for you. We have found improved performance that way.

Today we have decided not to go live with our SSRS 2008 R2/SharePoint 2010 Integrated report portal because it is too slow - our end users will not accept it. Native mode is much faster and more reliable. We hope Microsoft can address this asap. SharePoint 2010 is great, particlularly the BI tools, but SSRS Integration is dismall.

We have come to the exact same conclusion and we simply haven't been able to make the integrated version work properly. Here is some more info: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreportingservices/thread/4ed01ff4-139a-4eb3-9e2e-df12a9c316ff/Lumbago www.thefirstsql.com

We too experienced the same horrible performance with Integrated mode. Please see http://dereksan.blogspot.com/2011/01/switch-back-to-ssrs-native-mode-for.html and http://www.sqlchick.com/entries/2011/1/25/whats-up-with-the-slow-ssrs-r2-rendering-in-sharepoint-2010.html for more detail. The latter link has tons of great analytical information that was prepared by my colleague as a result of her and my painstaking work with Microsoft's top tier SQL and SharePoint support teams.
