Reporting Services error very strange
Hi everyone I need help with my reporting server instance installation pleeease. Server installation details: I have a server that has only reporting services (SQL Server 2008 R2) installed. Currently I am running 4 instances of reporting services on this server without any issues. I have set these up myself. Last week I set up the 5th instance in exactly the same way at the others I have set up, but I cannot get to the reportserver from the browser. I generally do not post questions as I almost always get the answer I need from forums, but in this case everything that ppl have experienced seems to be ok in my installation, but I still get the error. I have: 1. Set up 2 webservice URLs successfully through the config Tool. One is for the IP and one is for the computername. All 5 instances have different IPs and computernames. 2. Set up an entry in DNS linking the IP and the computername of the instance. 3. The database is configured (on a different server) and to make sure the access to the database is not the problem, I have set the reporting services to connect to the database with a domain NT account that has sysadmin access to the database server. 4. The reporting server services start up with no errors. 5. The <Dsn> is correct in the config file. (pretty much the same settings as the other instances that are working fine) 6. The log file shows no errors. This is the only entries to the log file when I try open the URL: library!WindowsService_0!18cc!02/13/2012-10:15:27:: i INFO: Call to CleanBatch() library!WindowsService_0!18cc!02/13/2012-10:15:27:: i INFO: Cleaned 0 batch records, 0 policies, 0 sessions, 0 cache entries, 0 snapshots, 0 chunks, 0 running jobs, 0 persisted streams, 0 segments, 0 segment mappings, 0 edit sessions. library!WindowsService_0!18cc!02/13/2012-10:15:27:: i INFO: Call to CleanBatch() ends 7. In the application error log on the server the only reference to an error for this instance is the one below. I have however checked the UrlRoot in RSReportServer.config and it is blank - but the other instances that are working fine is also blank, thus I don't know why it would be an issue with this instance The value for UrlRoot in RSReportServer.config is not valid. The default value will be used instead. I hope this is enough info to help me. Please let me know if you have any idea what I can try to make this instance work. Also, if you need any more information, please let me know - I'll be happy to provide the info. Kind regards, Tess

Hi Tess, did you check what is under URLRoot tag in your RSReportServer.config file? URLRoot = Used by the report server delivery extensions to compose URLs that are used by reports delivered in e-mail and file share subscriptions. The value must be a valid URL address to the report server from which the published report is accessed. Used by the report server to generate URLs for offline or unattended access. These URLs are used in exported reports, and by delivery extensions to compose a URL that is included in delivery messages such as links in e-mails. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157273.aspx Regards

Thank you Ursa I was in fact just trying accessing the incorrect ReportURL. The reportURL in the config tool was different to the one I was coding in my link. Silly, silly spelling mistake that I just didn't pick up with the eye - untill someone else looked at it and saw it was different. Luckily it is sorted now and everything is working fine - just terrible to think I wasted almost 16 hours on a silly spelling mistake!! :( Theresa
