Reporting Services Reports Migration
Hi , Apart from the RSScripter is there any plans from microsoft to release a tool in the future which can be used to deploy reports/security etc from one report to another. This will be very useful for administration purposes. I believe BO also has a similar tool probably named as Life cycle manager. Regards, Vikram

Hi Vikram, The built-in function to move reports from SQL Server Reporting Services(SSRS) 2008 to SSRS 2008 R2 is migrating the installation. Migrating the SSRS installation will move all reports, subscriptions, security settings or other configured settings to the new installation. However, there is no built-in GUI tools that help us to move reports to the SSRS 2008 R2. I would suggest you submitting a wish https://connect.microsoft.com/sql. If the service requests frequently, we may include it in the next release. Anyway, as far as I know, the RSScripter should be the best third-party tool to move reports to new instance currently. For more information, please see: How to: Migrate a Reporting Services Installation: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143724.aspx If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. Hi Jin, Thanks for your reply. I will submit it as a wishlist. BTW, I was referring to moving reports from one environment to another i.e from DEV to UAT and UAT to Prod etc. For people who manage Report Servers it is a great advantage as they dont have to go through backing up restoring the database if they have to copy lot of reports from one environment to another. Also in a normal support scenario where you want to restrict developers access this kind of a tool will be immensly helpful for the support team. Regards, Vikram

I just voted for this as well... RSScripter is great, but when you have to deal with file to disc subscriptions (outside of DDS), scripter looses the PWD for those file to disc subs.... I have to remember to run a small script that will update the .VB code to add this in... Major pain if you happen to forget...

Looks like everyone's wishes are being granted. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=29560 Right now it's limited to moving between Native Mode and SharePoint mode, but it's a start.John
