Reporting Services Configuration Manager Issue - No report servers were found on the specified machine
I am trying to open up the Reporting Services Configuration Manager to setup my email settings. When I try to connect to my reporting server instance I get a dialog No report servers were found on the specified machine, Details: Invalid namespace When I try to do a 'Find' I can only enter a value in the Machine Name textbox and the instance name textbox is greyed out... My reports website front end is working at http://localhost /Reports When I deploy .rdl designed reports from visual studio the path shows they deploy to http://localhost/ReportServer$ScadaReports Can someone point me to where I can fix the namespace for the reporting services configuration? I've been told to uninstall and re-install to fix my problem but being a production machine I am hesitant to do so. I have found some posts for the exact same issue on SQL Server 2008 but I am running 2005. The version of my database engine and reporting services is 9.00.1399.06. Thanks in advance for any assistance, Brett

I'm confused. You say that the url http://localhost/ReportServer$ScadaReports works when you deploy. This tells me you're running a 2005 Reporting Services instance on the local server against the ScadaReports instance of SQL Server. However, the http://localhost/reports tells me that you're accessing the default instance of SQL Server. Does http://localhost/Reports$ScadaReports work? When you run the Reporting Services Configuration Manager doesn't it prompt you for the server name and the instance name? You should (based on what you told us) use nothing for the server name and "ScadaReports" for the instance name. __________________________________________________________________ William Vaughn Mentor, Consultant, Trainer, MVP http://betav.com http://betav.com/blog/billva http://www.hitchhikerguides.net “Hitchhiker’s Guide to Visual Studio and SQL Server (7th Edition)” Please click the Mark as Answer button if a post solves your problem!

Hi William, http://localhost/Reports$ScadaReports does work and it appears to be exactly the same reports server website as if I just went to http://localhost/Reports (same reports and datasources etc). When I run the reporting services configuration manager a dialog pops up immediately for the instance selection BUT the instance name combo box is greyed out and I cannot type or select an instance at all. This results in not being able to get anywhere further and only being able to get a 'Invalid namespace' error. My objective is to get email subscriptions working to be able to email out reports that I have designed but are getting stuck at this point. Thanks, Brett
