Hi Robert, Can you please confirm if BI Studio is available as a free redistributable package? (e.g. we can have SQL management studio if we install express edition) I have spent some time in looking for a separate redistributable package for SQL 2008 Business Intelligence Development Studio over the internet and Microsoft site, but cannot seem to find it. I have tried to just copy the sql_bids.msi file from the licensed setup that i have and run it on a Windows Xp machine. Problem is it does not do anything. I have integrated SSRS 2008 with MOSS 2007, and now need to give by business analysts just the BI studio to create and deploy reports. handing them SQL server 2008 media is not practical. Thanks,Adnan Shamim

There used to be a free BI developer studio in the SQL Express 2005 Toolkit (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=3C856B93-369F-4C6F-9357-C35384179543&displaylang=en) Is there a similar toolkit for 2008?

Hi Robert, do you know if there is any different behavior regarding rsclientprint (activex client print control) between RS 2008 SP1 and RS 2008 SP2? To use this control you need administrator rights (download of the activex control). Due to company terms our users don't have administrator rights. Before installing sql server 2008 service pack 2 we could once install the necessary files on the client pc's per remote (system32\...). The report server recognized these files and didn't start the download of the activex control. After installing sp2 this workaround doesn't work anymore. After clicking the printing icon the user get's an error "unable to load client print control". The report server always tries to download and install the activex control - no matter if the necessary files are already installed on the client pc or not. Thanks, Christian Walk

Hi Dan, our users are no local admins, too. Try to copy the dll-files out of the cab file into the system32 folder on the client workstations and don't forget registering RSClientPrint.dll (regsvr32) => http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/client-side-printing-silent-deployment-of-rsclientPrint.aspx. This is how we handle the admin problem with RS 2005 and RS 2008 SP1. If it don't work I will ask our technical department how they fixed the problem after installing SQL Server 2008 SP2. Regards, Christian

Hello, yes we figure out a fix for this issue. You have to install SQL Server 2008 R2 on a test system. Than you can copy (replace) RSClientPrint-x86.cab from R2 to SQL Server 2008 SP2 - it works. Regards, Christian

Hey Christian, Thanks for your prompt reply and information. I ended up installing the CU for SP2 on a DEV server & then pulling the cab file. Basically the same thing you suggested. It worked. If you don't mind me asking how is your shop handling the end user download of the active X from your reporting server. Our users are not local admins so it can be problematic for our support team. Thanks again, Dan
