Report using SSAS as source - lost dataset
Strange one this. I have a report that uses a cube as it's datasource. I can see the dataset and the fields in the 'Report Datasets' in Layout view. When I click on Data tab the cube displayed is not the one the dataset is using. It is a random cube in the same database. Also all my Parameter queries are missing and when I preview, the dataset empties and of course the preview errors with loads of 'Fields not found' type errors. If I select the correct cube nothing changes - the dataset is still empty and preview does not work. Please tell me I do not have to recreate the datasets and reset the report up. Any ideas anyone ? TIA

Hi Jim, Can you run the MDX query when you drag and drop some attributes and measures in the cube in the cube query designer? It is really strange. Have you tried to recreate a report project? What's the version of your Reporting Service and Analysis Services? thanks, Jerry

Okay I have done some testing. I believe this is related to deleting/moving parameters when connected to a cube. I created a test report connected to a cube. I added one dataset (ds_Report) and added the fields to report layout. Everything working. Added a Parameter via the Data tab (CFO_Calendar) - everything worked Removed Parameter from Data tab and via teh Report menu pick - everything worked. Opened the report XML in XML notepad and deleted the Dataset CFO_Calendar. Copied the XML back into the report code screen and the report lost all it's fields. But looking at the XML they are all there. It does not even pick up the correct cube. It is as though the XML is not being parsed.

This is getting silly. I opened Reporting Services and right clicked the report. Edit the report put a rdl file out and I added this to my existing project You would think this would work BUT NO........ It just connects to the SSAS database but totally ignores the XML that points it to the right cube, field selection etc etc It again connects to the first cube it finds and ignores the dataset in the xml. I am seriously dissapointed in SRSS. Having worked with Crystal this is like going back to notepad from Word.... Except notepad works.
