Report builder 3.0 - Unable to connect to server
Hi there, We've been using Report Builder 2.0, and its been working pretty nicely. We have the option 'Use this report server or sharepoint site by default' option set to http://<server>/reportserver - and users can connect via the 'Open' dialog, save, etc. However, some of our users have been testing Report Builder 3.0 - and they are unable to connect, even though the URL is set exactly the same. They have Report Builder 2.0 and 3.0 installed on the same client workstation. With the same settings, 2.0 can connect, but 3.0 can not. The target installation is SSRS is SQL 2008. The error is: Connection failed. Unable to connect to the server that is specified in the URL... Make sure that the server is running, the URL is correct and you have permission to use the server. Does anybody have any ideas? thanks, mark

After posting this topic, the answer was presented in the related topics section... Thanks Bing & Google (not). The answer was 3.0 is only supported on 2008 R2. cheers, Mark

Ok, So I have Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 and I have this same problem. So I'm assuming you mean SQL 2208 R2. I am going to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2 and see if that resolves my problem. If it does i will reply with my findings. PhoenixtekkRichard Dixon MSFT Sr Systems Engineer

Did upgrading to R2 resolve the problem? We are attempting to use Report Builder 3.0 from our desktop to connect to a SQL 2008 server and getting the same error. In other research, it looks like the RDL format for 3.0 is different than 1.0 (what we're using now), so even if we could connect, we could not create usable reports on the 2008 server. The server itself would need to be upgraded to SQL 2008 R2?

Well, I happen to be running SQL Server 2008 R2 - and Report Builder 3.0 will not connect when supplied with the correct URL. I was able to deploy the model from BIDS to the same URL and now I want to create the report to use the datasource specified in the model. I'm sorry, but the above answer doesn't help. As a matter of fact, I've tried more than one URL for SSRS running on SQL Server 2008 R2 with no success, even though I have permissions set on the report server to do whatever I want. Anyone have a real answer?

I am having same Issue that Report builder 3.0 will not connect to server. I have SQL 2008 installed, then upgraded to R2, but it still does not connect. I also have Report builder 2 installed and it is connecting fine.

Does anyone have an answer to this yet?

I had the same issue and to resolve mine was simple - I had not entered the correct url in that I missed off the trailing slash ie I was entering someting like http://server/ReportingServices instead of http://server/ReportingServices/ Probably not the cause but sometimes the simplest things trip us (Me) up!
