Report Builder 3.0 takes very very long to launch
Hi, I'm dealing with Report Builder 3.0 issue. Reporting Services 2008 R2 is configured for Sharepoint integration with SP2010 farm; "Click-once" installation for Report Builder. The following steps are performed on my client PC, which is a Windows 7 box. To create a new RB Report I browse to the document library, pull down the New Document menu from the New section on the Documents ribbon > click Report Builder Report. After a few moments the MS Report Builder splash screen is displayed but does not disappear anymore. In task manager the program 'SplashForm" shows Not responding. I have to leave the splash screen running for several long long minutes before the Gettng Started form is finally displayed. The delay in other words is inacceptable. I also tried to launch msreportbuilder.exe from the cache (C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\WZHG0RJN.D1C\ZDPB6HXE.PKZ\msre..lder_89845dcd8080cc91_000a.0032_none_62ec3713d8796a69. But this also end in a crash. this is the error info: Description: Stopped working Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: MSReportBuilder.exe Application Version: 10.50.1600.1 Application Timestamp: 4bb67a84 Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.17514 Fault Module Timestamp: 4ce7b8f0 Exception Code: e0434f4d Exception Offset: 0000b760 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.4 Locale ID: 2067 I tested opening RB on the application server (which is not the same server as the report server BTW) using the same method, same user credentials. On the other machine RB opens quickly without the anoying delay I experience on the client PC. On my client PC, in an attempt to correct the situation, I cleared the cache (deleting 2.0 folder below C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Apps\) which forced a complete re-install. No success however. To add some more details: I have had a nicely working report builder before on my client machine, which connected to a Sharepoint integrated setup, similar to the one I am trying to connect with now. Since then I removed and recreated a webapplication/site collection and re-installed/reconfigured SSRS afterwards. But obviously I am missing out on something... Could it be that somewhere some leftovers of that previous connection (to what is now an invalid URL) is causing the RB to wait for a response from a server that will never come??? Thanks for your kind help!

Hi Kurt Petteloot, Based on the error message that you provided, the Report Build was hang on starting and might be crashed when accessing your reporting service. In that case, I think it is necessary to capture a user dump when the problem occurred. And then, you can send the dump to Microsoft CSS support. Support Professionals from Microsoft will assist you to solve the problem I am providing the steps below for you to gather the hang dump or crash dump to further work on this issue, Hang dump, a. Open Report Builder as usual, and wait for a while. b. When you found that the Report Builder application hang, and was not responding, please open TaskManager by one of follws, - Pressing “Ctrl + Alt + Del” button and then click “Start Task Manager” item. - Or right-clicking your task bar, click “Start Task Manager”menu. c. Once the Task Manager opened, switch to Process tab, find the “Report Builder” process MSReportBuilder.exe. d. Right-click the item, click Create dump file. e. After that, it will prompt a window and let you know the location of the dump file. Crash dump, we need to enable Windows Error Reporting in order to gather a userdump for further troubleshooting. Please read follows, Collecting User-Mode Dumps http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb787181(VS.85).aspx With WER, the system generates a user-mode mini dump in the location %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps by default. You can copy the hang dump or crash dump file to your development machine configured with symbols files, and open it in Visual Studio 2008. Next, you can analyze the error / exception, and call stacks to see why the error happens. Thanks, Eileen
