ReportBuilder 3.0 and SMDL Models
Dears, I am using the reporting system as a backend system within an c# asp.net webapp. I provide a link to the reportbuilder.application so that every user can access the reporting builder. I also deployed a lot of models (SMDL) to the reporting server. With the report builder 1.0 I was able to select the reporting model and create a new report based on the model. Selectring the entities and define some filters, than saving the report to the reporting server and accessing the report via my own webfrontend using soap. Within report builder 3.0 i cannot select a model. I found same tips on gogle to open the webfront end of the reporting server, in the context menu of the model select 'open within reportbuilder' than adding a new dataset,... BUT I defined the modells so that the users do not have to select something, they should only define the select the values out of the entities. Within the Report Builder 3.0 a 'normal' user cannot define an adhoc report it is definitly to complicated for normal user. Is there someone how have the same problems??? Is there a way to use the modells like in ReportBuilder 1.0??? Thanks a lot Oliver Some add infos: I tried the tips on http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sqlreportingservices/thread/a56d897f-59e6-4587-a0dd-446f84d63497 but could not find the 2.0 oneclick app on the reporting server. I tried to install the stand alone report builder 2.0 but it seams that there is not possibilitie to link it to the reporting server oneclick feature.

Hi Cwzzard, Robert Bruckner had put up a Report Builder 3.0 FAQ document. There are quite a few points there regarding Report Builder 3.0 and how it stands in comparison to Report Builder 1.0, I really recommend you go over that document for a more in-depth and detailed look on the matter. To your second question "install the stand alone report builder 2.0 but it seams that there is not possibilitie to link it to the reporting server oneclick feature." Report Builder 1.0 is installed when you install SQL Server 2008 and it is enabled by default. Report Builder 2.0 is installed when you install PCU1. After you install SQL Server 2008 PCU1, you can set Report Builder 2.0 as the default ClickOnce version to use. To change the default to Report Builder 2.0, you must update the value of the Custom Report Builder URL field in Report Manager, please following these: Start Report Manager. Click Site Settings. Click General in the left pane. In Custom Report Builder URL, type /ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder_2_0_0_0.application. Click OK. Lastly, Report Builder 2.0 will be your default ClickOnce version to use For more information, please see: http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/barbaro/archive/2011/03/17/pros-cons-rb-report-builder-3.0-1.0-versus-vs.aspx Thanks, Challen Fu Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.

To change the default to Report Builder 2.0, you must update the value of the Custom Report Builder URL field in Report Manager Sorry but you cannot do this on sql 2008 R2 there is no 2.0 Version, you only can use the 1.0 Version. calling /ReportBuilder/ReportBuilder.application On the msdn comparison chart you can find the following: Retrieve data from report models built from SQL Server, Analysis Services, Oracle, or Teradata. (supportetd by version 1.0 and 3.0) OK, but how???? regs, Oliver

On the msdn comparison chart you can find the following: Retrieve data from report models built from SQL Server, Analysis Services, Oracle, or Teradata. (supportetd by version 1.0 and 3.0) OK, but how???? Hi Oliver, Thanks for your feedback, from your information, it seems that you have confusion about how to retrieve data from report model built from SQL Server, Analysis Services, Oracle, or Teradata. Please follow these steps to retrieve data using Report builder from report model: 1. Click the Report Builder button on your Report Manager site. 2. Click New button on Report Data pane, then move to New Datasource..., the option of Use a shared connection or Report Model is selected by default. 3. Click Browse button, then you could select the report model as datasource. 4. Lastly, click Open button. If you have question about this issue, please feel free to ask. Thanks, Challen Fu Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.
