Replica is inconsistent with sql database

I'm receiving the following errors when trying to backup a specific SQL database on a remote server, using DPM 2010:

Affected area: SERVERNAME\SharePoint_Config
Occurred since: 2/1/2013 1:23:16 PM
Description: The replica of SQL Server 2008 database SERVERNAME\SharePoint_Config on SERVERNAME.mwellp.com is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent.

For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106)
DPM failed to synchronize changes for SQL Server 2008 database SERVERNAME\SharePoint_Config on SERVERNAME.mwellp.com because the snapshot volume did not have sufficient storage space to hold the churn on the protected computer (ID 30115 Details: VssError:Insufficient storage available to create either the shadow copy storage file or other shadow copy data.

Recommended action: Retry the operation at a later point when the churn is expected to be lower.
 Synchronize with consistency check.

When I run the vssadmin list shadowstorage, I get this on the volume hosting the data:

Shadow Copy Storage association

It is not part of a sharepoint farm, just single stand alone machine.  The machine itself doesn't have much free space available, was wondering if that could be the issue or not.  The DPM server has plenty of space available for backups.  Thanks.

Hi,

The lack of disk space will be on the SQL server, please check shadowcopy storage configuration and free space there.   Dpm does not make a shadow copy on the DPM server until after initial replication which does not appear to have completed yet.

I've had the same problem with DPM2012R2/SP2013SP1.

In my case the solution is:

1. Stop protection of member... SharePoint Farm\sqlserver\SharePoint_Config
2. Delete unprotected member incl. backup files on DPM server.
3. Modify Protection Group and add again the server and choose SharePoint protection.
