Replacing Front End server in MOSS 2007 farm
below is my MOSS 2007 Farm Configuration : 1 WFE / 1 central Admin server / 1 Database server. I need to replace my front end server with new server due to some isssues on existing front end server. I know its smooth process but I am concerned about customizations in my application , Will it reflect on new front end server or I need to do manual changes in web.config and registering DLLs / Host headers etc. Do I need any down time for this ? Please note : I dont have NLB. Please suggest.

What kind of customizations have you carried out? If you've deployed solutions then anything you've configured on your farm will be deployed to your new front-end. Build your new machine to the same level as the existing one and join this to your farm. Any customisation that has been done manually, such as changes to the web.config or files copied to the server itself will obviously need to be carried out too. Hopefully any customisations are supported by documentation so that you have a process to follow for your farm. When ready, repoint your DNS to the new server and once happy you can remove the other one. Paul Turner http://redmanta.co.uk/blog Twitter: @RedMantaUK MCTS:WSS,MOSS,2010 MCITP:2010. Thanks a lot Paul , I am new to this environment with no proper documentation :-( , so I guess I need to figure it out first about any manual customizations.... do you any process or tool to check this ? Do I need any downtime while joining server to the farm , if Yes then I need to schedule it with Downtime or may be in offhours... Thanks :

Some steps you can take to see if there are any customisations: - In Central Administration select Operations --> Solutions and make a note of any WSP (Work Solution Packages) that are installed there. Typically these will be either internally developed, CodePlex or commercial third party packages that have been installed.Go to your root site collection and look at the Site Collection Features. Make a note of any that appear different, have different icons or have a company name in thier text.Check out your web part gallery and see if there are any additional web parts added there. You may also be able to use SPManager 2007 to see what's been installed although this does require some familiarity with SharePoint.Steven Andrews | SharePoint Professional | http://www.twitter.com/backpackerd00d | https://baron72.wordpress.com/
