Replace sSharepoint DB Server
HI, I need to replace the Sharepoint Database server. I've looked into posts / articles about moving the content and configuration databases. I have a few questions During testing i have relocated the Config DB to a new SQL server without a problem; however Sharepoint believes the old SQL server is the default instance, it still says in CA that that is where the ConfigDB live, even thou it is on the new server. I took the configDB offline on the new server to confirm that sharepoint was using it, this resulted in CA failing as expected. Why did CA behave this way ? how do you remove the old server completely ? Also, would it be possible to migrate the sharepoint database server with a DNS change ? If 2 SQL Server as in syc (all databases are in both servers) then change the DNS entry for the old server to point at the new one and shut down the older server ? Best Regards Dave Roberts

Please refer to: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725(office.12).aspx The key to your issue is to direct the farm to the new database server by using a SQL Server connection alias.Sincerely, Lambert Qin Posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
