Replace Secondary Site Server
Hi, I've been reading the forum for information on replacing a problematic (physical) server with a new (virtual) one and wanted to run a few things by the experts.. Scenario: Config Manager 2007 SP2 R3 Parent (site code PPP, server name PRIMARY1) . Secondary site has the site code SSS and is made up of just one server SERV1 with MP, DP - I want to keep the same site code SSS so all my secondary site clients continue as if nothing happened.. I have just built the replacement 2K8 server, SERV2. Is the best way to do this to basically follow the instructions here: http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/skissinger/archive/2008/07/09/one-way-to-replace-the-hardware-for-a-secondary-site.aspx I'm not quite sure how I should tackle it - is it better/easier to follow the above link, ie rename the old server, rename the new server to the old servers name etc? Or if there an easier way to do it by keeping the new server name (and maintain my site code etc). Also, during whichever process should I Delete the current secondary site from the Primary server console? Got myself in a bit of a tiz.. Thanks for any advice/pointers... Nick

Just to add: I've also read the (unsupported) guide: http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/archive/2010/08/27/150930.aspx but I think some of it is not necessary if I keep the server name the same..

Took the plunge and followed the instructions as per this link (http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/skissinger/archive/2008/07/09/one-way-to-replace-the-hardware-for-a-secondary-site.aspx) and referencing this one, too (http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/archive/2010/08/27/150930.aspx) Be sure to reinstall IIS if changing the name of the computer mid way, and check the webdav settings manually (http://www.ithastobecool.com/2009/06/24/sccm-2007-r2-on-server-2008-weird-webdav-errors-on-mp-installation/) I didn't need to remove any SQL entries as this was done for me during the delete site & preinst /switches. All went well and seems to be working ok according to various logs..
