I have a couple hundred machines, that I now have reporting and are manageable, in SCCM. These machines are part of a merger and have the incorrect naming conventions. I do not want to reimage these machines. I just want to rename them. So I want to rename a couple hundred machines. Is this possible? Do I use a Task Sequence to do this? I have read mutliple postings. So I think I can go into the Variables tab, on the client machines, create "OSDmachinename" entry, and add the value for the new computername. I am not sure what to do next. If I use a Task Sequence, I know that the "Apply Windows Settings" sets the computername, but I am not sure if I can use this task, since I am not actually imaging a machine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
