Removing the PXE Role
A while ago I uninstalled the PXE role for my site. Here is the log: <12-08-2010 16:01:23> SMSPXE Setup Started.... <12-08-2010 16:01:23> Parameters: C:\PROGRA~2\MICROS~1\bin\i386\ROLESE~1.EXE /deinstall /siteserver:SCCM1 SMSPXE <12-08-2010 16:01:23> Deinstalling the SMSPXE <12-08-2010 16:01:23> Enabling MSI logging. pxe.msi will log to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\logs\pxeMSI.log <12-08-2010 16:01:23> Deinstalling SMSPXE, with product code {C63C1FBD-C9C8-469D-8ADE-12387FB5EA75} <12-08-2010 16:01:27> SMSPXE deinstall exited with return code: 0 <12-08-2010 16:01:27> Deinstallation was successful. <12-08-2010 16:01:27> Removing PXE Registry. I staretd to get alerts from SCOM about a System Service stopping unexpectedly, and I went to view the System Log for my Site Server and I in fact see even from last night that at 23:55:17 it started the SMS_PXE_SERVICE_POINT component and then at 23:55:18 it stopped unexpectedly. It seems as if the service wasn't correctly or fully uninstalled. I went to the ConfigMgr Service Manager but I didn't see any listing for the SMS_PXE_SERVICE_POINT. Then I searched the registry on my site server and found the following: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\SMS\Components\SMS_EXECUTIVE\Threads\SMS_PXE_SERVICE_POINT] "DLL"="\\bin\\i386\\pxecontrol.dll" "Startup Schedule"="" "Startup Type"="Automatic" "Current State"="Stopped" "Requested Operation"="None" I guess that the "Startup Type" should not be Automatic? What should these values be, if even the key should be there at all? Am I missing anything else? Thanks, Reuvy

Have you checked pxeMSI.log ? I'm not sure but a reboot might be required to finish the uninstall...Miguel Rodriguez MCTS - ConfigMgr ~~elmunjo.blogspot.com~~

Hello - Can you check sitecomp.log for PXE point entries? You may try to restart the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER service. Monitor the sitecomp.log to get more details.Anoop C Nair

The log I posted above is from the pxemsi.log file. Apologies that I didn't write that earlier.

I will restart the server. How will I notice a change, if I would? Should that registry key still remain configured the same?

I'm quite sure the posted log was pxesetup, not pxemsi. So please check that logfile also...Miguel Rodriguez MCTS - ConfigMgr ~~elmunjo.blogspot.com~~
