Removing an offline cluster node in SCOM R2
Hello, I have this cluster where there is one node offline. I seem to get stuck in a loop when i try to remove that cluster node from the console. "When i right click the node and select delete (The clusternode is gone so there is no need to uninstall the agent) i get this error:Agent (whatever01.domain.com) is managing other devices and cannot be uninstalled. Please resolve this issue via Agentless Managed view in Administration prior to attempting uninstall again." The clusternode is gray, and when i check agentless managed i can see the clusternode with two "not monitored" machines below it. I cannot remove or relocate these machines to another node. Is this a bug? Is there a way to remove this cluster node? Thanx in advance.

Hi,Please take a look at this thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/operationsmanagergeneral/thread/10ffee08-b875-47af-b788-db07dbfa1b56 , there has been a lot of discussions regarding removing clusters.Anders Bengtsson | Microsoft MVP - Operations Manager | http://www.contoso.se

Hello there. Anders is correct, there has been a discussion, but the bottom line seems to be you can't remove agent managed cluster nodes from SCOM. MS has a KB article about how to decommission a cluster monitored by SCOM, but as far as I can tell, the steps they list are impossible to achieve because you cannot actually get the cluster node out of SCOM.From the article:Step 1. Remove the Operations Manager agent from all nodes of the cluster being decommissioned.Ummm okay....how exactly am I supposed to do this? As you've seen, you get an error when trying to uninstall, or delete the agent from the SCOM GUI, so that only leaves using add/remove programs on the agent - and this does not remove the object from SCOM - it only uninstalls the bits on the agent.Step 2. Make sure that all the cluster nodes (including the virtual cluster nodes) are no longer visible in the Operations Manager console by checking the Agent Managed and Agentless Managed views under the Administration section of the Operations Manager console.Again, how is this possible? Uninstalling an agent via add/remove programs does not remove it from the SCOM inventory, so they will always be visible in the console.I'm stumped by this too and it appears to be a pretty major bug. You'll be left with orphaned objects in SCOM until this is figured out.Layne

Installing Update 1 rollup for SCOM 2007 R2 fixes the issue.

Patrick I am at R2 CU4 and I am still having the problem. I have the same thing going on. The two nodes were decomissioned and are grey. Trying to delete the server objects fails because of dependencies discovered. Trying to delete the discovered dependencies fails and does nothing. Did this problem arise again between CU1 and CU4?Jeff Mayrand

Hmm, I'm not so sure this ever went away. We are currently using R2 CU4 and have the same problem. I'll request this for the SCOM 2012 Beta on MS Connect.
