Remote shutdown.....iv tried everything please help
Not really sure where to post this but....... I have 3 computers and i would like to remotely shutdown my desktops with my laptop. When i try this in cmd i get access denied <5>. I have all 3 computers on a workgroup (windows 7) and all have same user id log in password and i can access all of them with remote desktop connection. i know i can shut them down with the remote desktop but it would be much faster with cmd and i have search and search and tried everything i could find but still wont work. If anyone has any input it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, Are you doing this from ConfigMgr? You can create a package that request the shutdown or use the right click tools.Kent Agerlund | http://scug.dk/members/Agerlund/default.aspx | The Danish community for System Center products

Well, this is the ConfigMgr forum. If you were using System Center Configuration Manager, there are lots of ways to ask the client to shutdown. Since you aren't, to help you along error code 5 means "Access Denied". So it could be firewall possibly denying remote access; or the local workstation account you say lets you login isn't in the local Administrators' group. If it's only in the local Users group, I could see that local workstation account not having Remote Admin rights (like shutdown), but locally once logged in it would have rights to shutdown.Standardize. Hi, Do checks as Sherry said, also you can use PsShutdown sysinternal tools. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897541.aspx Example Psshutdown: psshutdown \\remotecomputer -t 17:00 -c -v 300 will shutdown the machine named "remotecomputer". 300 seconds before 17:00, i.e. at 16:55, the countdown window will become visible and have a Cancel button. Any user logged on to \\remotecomputer has got 300 seconds' time to cancel the scheduled shutdown.
