Remote login - 2008 R2
Hi, I'm having an issue connecting to my SSRS instance remotely. Everything works fine when I'm logged on to the server. I can log in remotely via SSMS and BIDS using basic authentication only. When I try to login through windows authentication it says I do not have access (I am an administrator and again, local login works fine). When I attempt to browse to the http://servername/reportserver or http://servername/reports URLs through IE, I get a user/pass popup which appears 3 times then just leaves me with a blank screen, no error message. I have checked rsreportserver.config and have verified that I have the correct URL in the <ReportServerUrl> tag. This is otherwise a fresh install. Does anyone have any insight? It seems strange that basic auth works when windows auth doesn't. Thanks

Hello, If it's working locally on the server then open there http://servername/reports. At the top-right goto "Site settings" => "Security" and add there your domain account as System Admin. Then it should work also from remote.Olaf Helper ----------- * cogito ergo sum * errare humanum est * quote erat demonstrandum * Wenn ich denke, ist das ein Fehler und das beweise ich tglich http://olafhelper.over-blog.de

Unfortunately I've already done this. I'm system admin on the SSRS instance (and should have been before, anyway, because I'm in the local admins group on the server). As I said I can log in fine using basic authentication remotely. But for some reason windows authentication doesn't work.

I actually added 'Everyone' to system admins on the SSRS instance as well but it didn't change anything.

An update - I can log in using windows authentication using the IP address instead of the server name. So http://servername/reportserver only works with basic auth but http://123.456.679.101/reportserver works with windows auth

Hi contec, Try the following solutions: 1) Remove RSWindowsNegotiate and ensure RSWindowsNTLM is specified in the file rsreportserver.config 2) OR, change the report server service account to Network Service 3) OR, configure a specific hostheader for SSRS, configure your DNS server to understand that hostheader, and configure your domain controller to have an SPN for the hostheader and the report server service account. thanks, Jerry
