Remote control not working
Hello, Anytime I try to connect to a remote machine in SCCM I get an "unable to connect to host" error. I have confirmed that it is not a firewall/exception issue. The server that my SCCM server is installed on used to have the old SMS 2003 client on it and I have since upgraded it to the SCCM client (not sure if it would be related). I have noticed the following errors in my remctrl.log on my SCCM server: RCSvcs: ********** Unloading Remote Control Service Manager Library ********** MsiExec 3/17/2011 4:30:48 PM 3900 (0x0F3C) RCSvcs: ********** Loading Remote Control Service Manager Library ********** rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: Entering RemoveW2KDrivers rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: RemoveNT5Devices: Starting removal of Win2K device drivers rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: RemoveNT5Device(*SMS_MOUSE): device not found, its ok rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: RemoveNT5Device(*SMS_MOUSE) succeeded rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: RemoveNT5Device(*SMS_KEYBOARD): device not found, its ok rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: RemoveNT5Device(*SMS_KEYBOARD) succeeded rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: FindDevice(*SMS_DISPLAY): found Microsoft SMS Mirror Driver rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: IsRemoteDesktopActive: session 0 (Console) Connected rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: IsRemoteDesktopActive: session 65536 (RDP-Tcp) Listen rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: IsRemoteDesktopActive: session 1 (RDP-Tcp#1) Active rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: IsRemoteDesktopActive: session 2 (RDP-Tcp#2) Active rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: RemovelNT5Device(*SMS_DISPLAY): detected active Terminal Server sessions rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: RemoveNT5Device(*SMS_DISPLAY) failed, error 0x20 rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: RemoveNT5Devices: failed, error 2 rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: DRIVER REMOVAL SCHEDULED FOR NEXT REBOOT rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: Leaving RemoveW2KDrivers rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) RCSvcs: ********** Unloading Remote Control Service Manager Library ********** rundll32 3/17/2011 4:35:39 PM 936 (0x03A8) It just keeps repeating this error. Would this be related to my in ability to manage my remote clients?

"unable to connect to host"----> could be the problem because of firewal ON or name resolution is not hapepning ? can you check if the client is healthy and able to talk to MP or not ? //Eswar Koneti @ www.eskonr.com

Thank you for your response. It is definitely not a firewall or name resolution issue other client tasks work fine such as interactive command prompt and the windows management console etc. Any ideas on the errors being reflected in the logs that I pasted in my last post? I think that they are related. I have confirmed that the firewall is not a factor I have disabled it all together etc so lets not focus on that.I think the issue has to do with the errors being reflected in my logs.

skeelime, You mentioned you use to have old SMS 2003 clients. I assume they have been upgraded to SCCM 2007. This article describes "ConfigMgr 2007: When upgrading from the SMS 2003 client to the ConfigMgr 2007, installation fails due to not being able to remove SMS 2003 remote control drivers" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2000387 See if this helps any.Kind Regards, Tom Ziegler http://www.sccmguy.com | Twitter @Tom_Ziegler
