Remote clients outside of the office
I'm trying to find anything in the admin guides current and past for this situation. I have around 20 users with lap tops that are running around outside of the office, the laptops are installed with the CCM Client and I take the opportunity to allow hardware and software discovery to happen prior to deploying the laptops. However once the laptops are out there in the universe at large I never see them again until they are broken/virus riddled/installed with everything. I'm trying to figure out a simple setup where the CCM clients check back in once in a while and I can run reports on them while they are out in the field and even push updates to them from monthly patch sets we approve of. Obviously the clients are in the internet cloud and the layer three security is pretty tight/firewall/ips/virus scanning/etc. We have a VPN solution, but nobody seems to like using it. sigh... If anyone has a good book to point out or a decent bit of information somewhere it would be most appreciated to help me figure out a work around. Thanks in advance

You can configure Internet Based Client Management in ConfigMgr. and control the clients that way - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693755.aspxKent Agerlund | My blogs: http://blog.coretech.dk/author/kea/ and http://scug.dk/ | Twitter @Agerlund | Linkedin: /kentagerlund

Direct access might also help in that situation, but there are tons of prerequisites.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de

Prereqs aren't an issue, I can cycle out laptops and change the build I'm sending out appropriately.

Most of the Direct Access pre-reqs are in your Windows and network infrastructure, not on the client. Things like IPv6 support, UAG, server 2008 R2, etc.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys
