Remote Desktop / Remote Tools to workgroup clients through sccm 2007 issue.
Hi people, another SCCM 2007 head scratcher for you.I've got workgroup pc's that are installand and managed by SCCM 2007, they are assigned and installed correct and recieve updates/software deployment etc as required, however i cannot get the remote desktop or the remote tools features to work. When trying to run Remote dekstop i just get - 'Remote desktop can't find the computer <computer Name> and when trying to load remote tools just comes up with - 'unable to contact host'This is working for clients that are installed within the domain so i'm assuming it is a setting for non domain clients that is affecting this or maybe it just isnt supported? I have published the MP within WINS for workgroup clients to connect.Any help or advise greatly appreciated as always.regards, Mike.

In the dns properties of the workgroup computers, make sure these computers know where to publish data to.In other words add the fqdn of the domain to their connection properties."Everyone is an expert at something" Kim Oppalfens Configmgr expert for lack of any other expertise. http://www.scug.be/blogs/sccm

Hiya, thanks for replying.yes they seem to resolve fine, and if i just use RDP outside of SCCm 2007 i can connect fine - it would be nice to have these features as im hopingit would provide functionality for my helpdesk. As i say Client's in the same domain work fine, so i'm thinking this will be ebcause non-domain clients are accessing MP via WINS and this isnt allowing the remote connection or isnt capable of doing it? Cheers.

If i put in the dns Suffix on the workgroup PC it's still not working, the netbios name appears to resolve fine. Thanks for your help so far.

Sorry, still havent had my 1st coffee of the morning here! :) Yes it appears too, it's using the FQDN to communicate with the MP ok. Regards.
