Remote Assistance not available for Windows 7 computers
On non-Windows 7 computers, an Administrator in the SCCM Console has the option to initiate a Remote Assistance session by right-clicking the resource, selecting start, and then selecting Remote Assistance. This feature is not available on the context menu for the Windows 7 computers in our environment. Has anybody else experienced this? Is there a solution for this?

Fairly certain that is a Service Pack issue with SCCM. Service Pack two added support officially for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 and Windows Vista SP2. Remote control was not supported (I believe) prior to SP2 for those OS's and may not have been an option. What version of SCCM are you at in the site that this issue is occurring? Needs to be 4.00.6487.2000.

I am attempting to use Remote Assistance on a Windows 7 client from our SCCM 2007 SP2 R2 site server (which is installed on Windows Server 2003 SP2 R2). The Windows 7 client has the SP2 client installed.

So I'm not assuming anything - you are on the server and the console is upgraded to SP2 right? And I haven't seen this. I'm poking around our site to see if there is anything that may cause this. The console could be an issue if it is not the current version that supports Windows 7 remoting. Have you tried another system or installed the console on another system from the SP2 media just to validate it isn't something weird with the system you are on?

Now that you mention it, when I do Help > About System Center Configuration Manager... it says version 4.00.6221.1000. However, when I right-click > Properties on the site (under Site Management) the site version is 4.00.6487.2000. I bet this is the issue. How does the site get upgraded but the console doesn't? How do I upgrade the console on a site server?

Hmmm...I wonder if the console was open when you did the upgrade..not sure. At this 10 seconds I can't remember if there is a tick box to deselect for console upgrade ... You can grab the media and run the install and see if there is just an option for installing the console/upgrading but when I just did it myself it is greyed out. That is probably your issue. Not sure how to resolve that one however...but if the binaries were in use during an upgrade maybe it didn't upgrade..or since mine was upgraded maybe there isn't an option. Run the splash.hta just to see..you can back out of it. Was your site upgraded over the wire or directly with media on the site server?

We upgraded the site directly with media on the server. Interestingly enough, my co-admin is running the SP2 console from his laptop and he also does not see "Remote Assistance" on Windows 7 machines (but does on all other resources). So, maybe that isn't the issue.

Hah..that is interesting. Well - if it were me I'd try to possibly pull down a fresh "slipstreamed" copy of SCCM 2k7 SP2 and give that a whirl. The odd part of this whole thing is that you have the ability to do remote assistance on other types. Leads me to believe you have a backrevved DLL or something but I don't know. I wish I could be more help but I think that is about all I have :). I'm curious the result here - I hope you find an answer. If this was server 2008 and you were on the server and trying to do this I know there is a feature you have to enable on the server to allow remote assistance. Not sure but I wonder if somehow your windows 7 builds were customized to not have that enabled by default. Group Policy or customized build sounds like they could be options but this is all happening from the server side / console side. That was why I was thinking maybe a back rev of a dll from the source you guys are using. Good luck man! If I find something I'll post - hopefully someone out here has seen this and can provide some answers.
