Reimaging existing computer - How to keep same computer name?
I am brand new to SCCM 2007 and was wondering if there is a way that when i remiage an existing computer that when it's all done it will retain it's original computer name. For example, we are migrating off of Altiris to SCCM, but with Altiris if I
have a machine named 'Computer1' on the domain, when I deploy a new image to that machine, when it's all said and done it will still be called 'Computer1' and be back on the domain. Is this possible in SCCM, or at the very least to at least retain the
computer name? Correct me if I'm wrong but I can always run a TS to rejoin it to the domain right? So I'm more concerned with retaining the computer name. Thank you!Brian Stein

The computername will be defaulted to it's original value.

That's great! I was told by the person who installed SCCM for us that it would get some randomly generated computer name, which seemed odd to me. Thanks so much!Brian Stein

As long as the computer previously had a ConfigMgr agent on it, it will get the same name. The domain join is typically handled by Windows setup which you can configure via the task sequence to join the domain.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | Twitter @JasonSandys
