Rectangle Auto Growing
I have a tablix inside a rectangle (Region 1). Below my report I have another table/rectangle(Region 2). If the number of rows returned from Region 1 goes over a certain amount of rows, it pushes Region 2 to the next page. What I don't understand is there is PLENTY of white space in Region 1. Why would it push the bottom to a second page? I have tried several techniques including the forced lines on the right and bottom of the rectangle (http://lukehayler.com/2009/07/managing-reporting-services-layouts-using-the-rectangle-in-ssrs/ -- it's mentioned in the comments), Nesting Rectangles and using textboxes inside the rectangle (http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/383350/add-can-grow-and-can-shrink-properties-to-rectangle-control), setting ConsumeContainerWhitespace = True, and many others that I was shooting in the dark. Attached is a screen print of the behavior. This should fit on one page but again it's not. I would greatly appreciate any help as I have struggled with this for days

That sounds extremely annoying. Try grabbing your tablix and moving it outside your rectangle. Run the report. Then move the tablix back into the rectangle. Just thinking that maybe this will reset something that may have gotten hosed along the way somewhere.

I am willing and have tried just about everything. I moved it out and back and still get the same behavior :(

Hi Few suggestions from my side, 1) Check Rectangle properties for (Screenshot attached) then click on any text box of table and go to its properties on right side, under General there are two things a) Can Grow- mark it True b) Can Shrink- mark it False Also make sure that there is no extra space between Table and Rectangle's inner boundary. Hope this helps.

Hi, I do have the CanGrow/Shrink set to the above. And I have the table against the inner boundaries of the rectangle.Jason Carter

Hi JSCQL, Sorry for my delay response. In your case, I think that we need to reduce the height of the Rectangle1. Please see the image below: The blank space will result in all of report content cannot display in a single page. So, the report will push the bottom content to the second page. I agree with the above mentioned solutions and i think that you should add the Ruler to the View and check whether your Rectangle is actually exceeding your page length or not.Teddy Bejjani - BI Specialist @ Netways

I tried CANGrow = False and that does work BUT unfornuately it keeps me from doing multiple columns in one column/row. I am attaching another screen print to demonstrate the behavior I need. If there is a better way to do this please let me know. Notice the ItemDescription column: Jason Carter

I agree that the extra space is probably what is causing the issue but I did that b/c I want the borders of the rectangle1 to visibily be there. So I wanted to force the rectangle to be static and was hoping that the table just used the whites space it needed but that is when I am getting the "push" issue. If I use Lines, won't they get pushed as well? Is it not a best practice to do what I was trying? Thanks for the persistence!Jason Carter

Hi, You can right-click on the report in the "Solution Explorer" window and select "View Code" option to get the XML code, and then post them in this thread. Or you can post both reports(.rdl file) and the data source to us by the following E-mail address. E-mail: sqltnsp AT microsoft.com (Please replace the AT with @, and remove additional spaces) Regards, Bin Long Bin Long TechNet Community Support

Hi JCRhythm, In your case, could you please share the report design structure to us for further investigation? So, I will try to reproduce this issue on my test environment and help you to solve it. In addition, if you get the different page number in Preview mode and Print Preview mode, I suggest you that refer to the forum FAQ item 68 How do I get the same page number in web page and PDF?. Hi, Try this: 1. KeepControlsTogather property to true. 2. And CanGrow property to false.

I removed the "master" rectangle and I STILL get the push affect. Is there ANYTHING that can keep objects from pushing other objects in SSRS? Or FORCE it to use the white space available. Again this is not utilizing the available whites and pre-maturely (IMO) pushing objects below it.Jason Carter
