Recreate Timer Job Definition
Hello, Hello, I notice my MOSS 2007 server's default application is missing a handfull of timer job definitions. The one that's causing me grief right now is teh :workflow timer job definiton" as workflow pauses never restart without it. I think this may have all been a result of moving the database to another SQL server by way of an stsadm restore to an new MOSS server farm. I do see in KB942989 that this may have been due to a bug for which there is a hotfix. However, KB942989 seems to require a delete and restore of the problematic application. Is there a way to recreate the missing timer job definitions short of such a drastic solution? I do see information out there regarding the creation of custom timer job definitions, and would think MS could provide a way to do the same for the missing ones in this case. Thanks, Jack

Actually, deleting the web application and recreating it is not as bad you think. The important stuff is really in the content database. When you delete the web application, from Central Administration, be sure to NOT delete the content databases. When you recreate the web applicxation, using the same name, host header etc. as the current one, simply use the existing content database as the name of the DB when creating it. This will re-attach the database to your new web application with all content intact.Imagine what we could be...If we could just imagine. Daniel A. Galant

Daniel, Thanks for the reply. I think I may have not provided enough info on what KB942989 details as theh way to fix things. Here's an excerpt: >>To resolve this issue, before you restore the backup to the new farm, you must manually create a new Web application in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or in Office SharePoint Server 2007. To do this, you must use the same name as the Web application that is contained in the backup. When you do this, the following Windows SharePoint Services timer job definitions are created automatically...<< So, Im thinking they want me to apply a certain hotfix, backup my entire MOSS farm, delete the web appliaction in question, recreate it exactly as it was named, and restore the data back to that web application. All this to get a handfull of timer job defintions back. Hopefully there's an easier way...

Daniel, Your advise was completely on the mark. My timer jobs are back for the web application in question. Workflow pauses now work as expect. Thanks so much for all your help. -Jack
