Recovery Backout plan fails because STSADM Restore gives access denied
Hi -- I am at SharePoint WSS 3 SP 1 and I am about to install SP2. Before I start to implement SP2 on the production machine, I thought it wise to try my backout procedure should it fail. On a small SP 1 test machine I did a full backup with STSADM with the DB on a separate SQL server I then did a machine VMWARE snapshot that backs up may WFE of SharePoint I installed the service pack sp2 -- an it installed fine. but now I want to test my backout plan so I reverted the snapshot -- so my WFE is no back to the pre sevice pack level now I go and try an STSADM Restore and I get access denied. I look at the error event log and I see Event ID: 5617 HAREPOINT is not consistent with the expected database schema If you are doing a restore of the SharePoint database, of course the schema won't match. Is there anyway around the problem without rebuilding the SharePoint to SP1 and reconnecting the data base? Thanks for any assistance on this

Hi, Interesting problem, look up on this http://blog.mediawhole.com/2007/11/stsadm-restore-results-in-access-denied.html Then consider this mix-up http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/6aa1ae96-3a10-4371-8409-3e94fba86efb . At the end it all bothers on permission. Remember MOSS is all about IIS (its permissions), SQL (its permissions read, write, process, security, roles). That's where the problem is.
