We have a requirement where the documents in a library are revised and all prior versions must be kept permanently as part of a record. Versioning, of course, can do this, but there will be a large number of large documents with many revisions, and so the storage requirements will grow exponentially. Can anyone recommend an alternative, Microsoft product or not, which basically provides what Sharepoint Versioning does on a much larger scale, without the need to add a new SQL server every month? As per Mike´s rules, I´m not affiliated with Metalogix and I´m speaking as an individual but one thing you may want to look at it is a product called StoragePoint. It uses the EBS output to allow you to siphon your content out of the SQL servers and onto whichever storage devices you may have, such as cheap tier storage for instance.
