Receive SNMP trap but from undiscovered network device
Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible to receive SNMP traps from devices which haven't been discovered as network devices in OM2012? We have various network devices which only generate SNMP traps and don't support being 'SNMP probed' and hence can't become node instances. Is there any way we can still receive traps from these and raise alerts? Thanks Steve

NO. You should discover the network device before sco can monitor scnmp trap Roger

Thanks Roger. It's a shame because that means these device can't be monitored in SCOM :-( As they can only generate traps and don't support probes they can't be discovered and hence SCOM ignores any traps they send. The only workaround I can think of is to have another server (which SCOM can discover) proxy the traps but it's not a very elegant solution. Steve

Yes, I agree. Does this network device provides any other means, besides trap, to monitor it perofrmance such as web interface. From my experience which i want to share with you, my datacenter has temperature sensor which does not support snmp probe but it has a web interface for viewing various sensor data. I create a script monitor to monitor the corresponding temperature value in the web page and generate alert when it over the threshold. Roger

I'll have to look at the options - I just wanted to check on a more general level whether anyone knew of a way to receive traps in scom from unknown sources. Thanks for your suggestion. Steve
