Reboot Delay - After Patch Deployment & Mandatory Applicaitons

Dear All,

We are in process of building SCCM in our environment. Most of the users are requesting us to increase the reboot time which happens after the mandatory restart after deploying the Security Updates and Applications.

So as part of client settings, We have done the following

Computer Restart = Changed from 90 (Minutes) default to 1440 (Minutes), Is there any other option to increase the reboot time. Your suggestions or guidance are really required ..

Thank you in Adv

This is the right way to do so. The only other way you could prevent reboot and manage the time would be using maintenance windows.

You could leave the reboot time at 90 min and play with maintenance windows. You could create a maintenance windows for your desktop for example that goes like this: 11:00 pm to 4:00 am and for the application or windows update you could say don't install and don't reboot outside of maintenance windows or you could let the application install and the reboot to not occur until the maintenance window.

Hope this help

Dear Jason,

Sure. Using Maintenance Window - Can help on scheduling the installation of the Software update or Application with desired time. Would request your help on making this Maintenance Window to help for Reboot Extension to 4 or 5 Days..Please

Well let`s say you want the computer to reboot only Saturday you would create a maintenance windows that is only for that day.

Then when you configure the deployment (work the same for windows update or application) When ask:

When the installation deadline is reached Allow the following

Software installation (check this one)

System reboot

Wow..

Good Article..

Thank you. So as per the SCCM without using any Maintenance Window - We can have the maximum Reboot delay is max of 1440 minutes. Am I correct?

I do have a DCR in to extend it past the 24 hour mark for special cases.  Until then you can force a local policy that will help you get past the 24 hour wall.

See this blog entry.
