Reassign DP from 2012 SP1 to 2012 R2 environment.

We are due to migrate to our new 2012 R2 environment soon.

We have just tested a DP reassignment. The actual DP role reassignment worked fine. However the SMSDPPROV.log contains lots of the following errors:

[CA4][Thu 04/17/2014 10:53:19]:Importing package 0GL0051D as content 0GL0051D.2 into SIS from source \\TSTSCCMDP01.XXX.XXX.COM\SMSPKGD$\0GL0051D
[CA4][Thu 04/17/2014 10:53:19]:Failed to access the source

anyone any ideas?

Have you already checked the obvious? Is the DP (=computer account) able to access the sources at all?

Have you seen http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712313.aspx#BKMK_SupportedMigrationVersions ? It's officially not supported to migrate from SP1 to R2.

It seems to be saying that the source is the SMSPKGD$ folder on the same box?!

If I redistribute the apps to the DP then it works fine?!

We haven't actually migrated from SP1 to R2, we did an SP1 to SP1 migration then upgraded to R2.

As far as I understood it, the reassignment of DPs from SP1 env to R2 env was supported - I see no reason why it shouldn't be?!

Digging a bit more into this we are seeing the following in PkgXferMgr.log on the relevant Primary Server:

No capacity for send request. CAS00441 will be sent to TSTSCCMDP01.XXX.COM at a later time.

So it seems that pkgxfermgr is just busy doing things. There is not much you can do to speed things up.

The SMSDPProv.log on the DP has not updated for 5 days though....!?

Pkgxfermgr might be busy sending things to other DPs - if there are any.

Yeah, I've increased the settings and that error is gone now.

We still have the issue of the failure to convert packages ... if we are reassigning a DP in 2012, then why does it look for (and fail) to find content in SMSPKGD$ when all the content is already in SIS?

Yeah, I've increased the settings and that error is gone now.

Which settings did you increase?

Site Components / Software Distribution / Concurrent distribution settings
or
Sender?

and what was the old and new settings?

Thanks,

Claud Cutler
