RS as a Safer Place for Pivot Table off Cube
Hi. I'm learning the hard way that it might not be such a good idea to put excel pivots off OLAP connections in the hands of users. I'm thinking it might be safer in RS where they cant type data into the pivot area where it stays forever. I'm wondering if RS is an alternative. A lot of work (including column renaming) went into building the pivot table in Excel, and there is a fair amount of OLAP based security keeping supervisors from seeing eachother's data. Supervisor and subordinate stats can be viewed in an expandable/collapsable user hierarchy as well. There are only about 3 filters involved. We run STD 2008. If we choose to migrate this effort to RS 2008, are we looking at a seamless effort? Or pretty much a rewrite? The columns are (as I recall) a one for one mapping to existing olap measures but we change their column heading names in this pivot because of the audience involved. I wasnt sure if this should be posted here or in the SSAS forum. Ideas/alternatives beside RS are welcome. The Pivot refreshes on open currently.
