RDS with VDI slow to connect
Hi,
I have two 2008 R2 servers, one running the Ts roles and one running Hyper-V with the virtual desktops on it.
I have configured it following the MS guides and it works ok. Once i am connected to the virtual desktops it works fine and speed is great. But it takes about 30 seconds to connect to it internally and about 2 minutes externally, again even externally the performance of the desktop is very good.
I have RD web access setup and that connects pratically instantly and displays the correct desktop icons, but once i click on the icon it will take about 30 seconds before I get a logon prompt and then about a minute and a half before the remote desktop actually connects. When it connects the logon process is fast.
any idea what could be causing these delays. I can't see any event errors in the logs and the setup is fairly simple and dedicated to those roles

cheers

Hello,

The answer to this question depends on which phase costs the time to result in the delay.

Based on your description, waking up the guest OS for the client may take most of the time, and more powerful Hyper-V host server could reduce the startup period.

Thanks.

Hi,
the machine is already awake. The servers are of decent spec so don't think it will be the servers, i suspect more the config itself.
Basically when I try to connect by double clicking on the desktop icon. it will say intialising connection and then securing connection. it repeats this about 3 times each taking about 30 seconds. When the rdp connects the logon is fast.

thanks

Hi,

I am seeing a simliar problem with slow startups.  Typically I see the message securing connection repeated about 3 times.

Did you find a solution to this problem?

Hi,

The same situation here.

There are delays event if machine is running.

If machine is turned off or saved the startup process taking 15 seconds and all connection is about 2 minutes.
