R3 Upgrade only on Central Site
I've got a central site serving clients along with 6 child primary sites, everything is currently R2. Am I going to run into any issues with only upgrading the Central site to R3 and leaving the child sites as R2? The central site license is R3 capable but our child licenses were not covered by SA when R3 was released. I'd really like to use delta discovery and dymanic collection updating on the central site.Chris Summers

I've heard customers asking similar questions. I even heard of a guy who wanted to upgrade his servers to SCCM and leave his clients at 2003 because the server licenses are only 1500. You'd need to contact MS licensing to see if this is legal. Nobody here will be able to answer that questoin. I have a think I know what they are going to tell you but like I said, they are the only ones who can answer that 100%. Adding a license for the child primary sites is cheap. $1500.00 per site. The problem is there's no "upgrade" for the clients so it's likely at least assumed if not legally required that you own R3 for all of your clients. I'm in the same boat as you are. I am stuck at R2 because of no SA.With 2012 just around the corner this is a good time to get your SA or EA in-place to prevent this from happening again. You don't want to have to buy SCCM each time a new release comes out. John Marcum | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jmarcum/|

I'd really like to use delta discovery and dymanic collection updating on the central site. That does not make too much sense if all clients are assigned to primary child sites, because those cannot make use of those features.Torsten Meringer | http://www.mssccmfaq.de
