is the checkbox Enable distribution point sharing for the source site server new since R2?

if I remember well it was not there in RTM

I saw that in the configured hierarchy this was checked, but the migration was not meant to happen just yet.

does the checkbox actually migrate them already or just show them in the console?

if it would migrate them, then I think we have involuntarily caused a major problem in 2007

The checkbox already existed before R2. Good thing is that it enables the distribution point for sharing content and it doesn't migrate the distribution point.
