Question on MIIS 2003 SP1 to FIM 2010 upgrade
We are currently using MIIS 2003 Sp1 ,.net 1.1 for extension rules code ,SQL 2000 as MIIS backend on windows server 2003 server. We are using MIIS to synchronize the data between SQL server 2005 ,AD ,ADAM Initially we planned to upgrade this to ILM 2007.Since FIM 2010 is also released ,doing some analysis on upgrade to FIM 2010 . 1. Is there any document on upgrading from MIIS 2003 to FIM 2010 ? 2. All our servers are windows server 2003 .Does FIM 2010 supported on win2k3 ? 3. We are planning to upgrade OS and SQL server to 2008 next year ? Does FIM 2010 support sql 2008 ? 4. Do we have to consider anything else to upgrade to FIM 2010 from MIIS 2003 ? Any suggestion on this is very helpful .GP

GP, Just a check: Are you just synchronizing data between SQL, AD and ADAM? Do you synchronize passwords? No other MAs or 3rd party software in use? 1. look a this document : Migrating from ILM 2007 to FIM 2010. The considerations regarding ILM 2007 will apply to your situation, with some extra considerations on top. Within the section 'Deployment' you'll find more interesting information. 2. No. (as platform to install FIM on). FIM 2010 is 64-bit only. Check the hardware and software requirements and/or the FIM 2010 system requirements. In short, FIM requires : - Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard or Enterprise - Microsoft SQL Server® 2008 64-bit Standard or Enterprise, Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later (R2...) But that doesn't mean you must upgrade your W2K3 all at once... 3. Yes. 64-bit, see previous. 4. Yes, at first sight, probably your code extensions (should be upgraded to the new .NET FW) Make sure you set the correct compatibility level of the upgraded SQL database You could consider using the FIM 2010 web/portal functionality. Depending the scenarios you use or plan to use: migrating existing scenarios to the FIM 2010 codeless capabilities. Hi GP, Answers to your questions: Take a look at this post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ilm2/thread/b47c5545-b066-45bd-9e21-9601f5a7fa86 FIM needs to be installed on windows server 2008 64-bit or windows server 2008 R2 64-bit Yes FIM 2010 supports SQL 2008 You need to recompile your dlls, and if you have any extensible management agents you need to do some additional tricks. You need as well to upgrade your current MIIS to SP2 and install another hotfix I have upgraded MIIS to FIM for some customers, if you want i can help you with that. http://www.zevainc.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=67:upgrading-miis-2003-and-ilm-2007-to-fim&catid=10:identity-management&Itemid=35 Yours Eihab Isaac eihab@zevainc.com
