Question about WSUS Update (KB2938066 & KB2937636)

Hi there Experts,

I'm currently planing the update of my Configuration Manager 2012 R2 Primary Site to Service Pack 1. During the upgrade process i would also like to apply KB2938066 to my WSUS / SUP Server.

There are some blog Posts which mention, that i need to manually deploy an updated Windows Update Agent Update (KB2937636) to my Windows 7 / 2008 R2 Clients. Could someone answer me the following questions about this?

- When i apply KB2938066 to my WSUS, Clients without the updated WUA Agent (KB2937636) will still work?
- I don't see KB2937636 for Windows 8.1 / Windows Server 2012 R2. I assume that this update is already not needed on those Opearting Systems?

Thank you very

"During the upgrade process i would also like to apply KB2938066 to my WSUS / SUP Server."

Are you going to deploy a new instance of ConfigMgr onto a 6 year old OS, 3 (soon to be 4) version old OS? Is there a reason you aren't using at least Server 2012?

That depends upon whether you disable Automatic Updates or not. I generally always recommend disabling automatic updates though to prevent unwanted update installation as well as unwanted reboots both performed by the Windows Update Agent (WUA) totally outside the control of ConfigMgr.

If it's not listed as an applicable OS, then yes.

Hi Jason

Thanks for your answers regarding the WSUS Updates.

If i'm correct, the only way i would bring my Primary Site Server (2008 R2) to 2012 R2 would be via a Site Recovery onto a new Server based on 2012 R2? Is this possible using directly R2 SP1 and perform the Site Recovery from R2 RTM?

Thanks!

Sorry, that's correct. I answered as if you were deploying a new site altogether so my comment has no real value in this thread at this point.
