Question about SCCM HF 2489004 - OS Requirement
I did some testing in regards to SCCM Hotfix 2389004 that lets you add Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 as supported platforms for Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 2 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2489044 The article states that it needs to be installed on all primaries and secondaries. We have a large number of primaries/secondaries here and I thought I remembered in the past when this type of hotfix came out it only needed to be installed on primaries. I was hoping to prove that it only needed to be installed on primaries, to cut down the amount of servers we had to “touch”. I did a snapshot before and after the hotfix install on a primary, secondary, and XP machine with SCCM admin console installed and found that the hotfix replaces files on primaries, secondaries, and machines with the SCCM Admin console installed (which isn’t listed in the article). Below is the platform (ex: primary, secondary, client) and which files get replaced on each. Primary files replaced d:\SCCMServer\AdminUI\bin\adminui.common.dll d:\SCCMServer\AdminUI\bin\adminui.dcmproperties.dll d:\SCCMServer\AdminUI\bin\i386\00000409\baserc.dll d:\SCCMServer\bin\i386\00000409\baserc.dll Secondary files replaced c:\SCCMServer\bin\i386\00000409\baserc.dll XP Client with SCCM SP2 Console Installed files replaced c:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager Console\AdminUI\bin\adminui.common.dll c:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager Console\AdminUI\bin\adminui.dcmproperties.dll c:\Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager Console\AdminUI\bin\i386\00000409\baserc.dll FYI, I was able to create a new program item with the OS Requirement of Win 7 SP1 from my XP client that had the SCCM SP2 Admin console installed and didn’t have the hotfix applied. I was wondering if anyone had any input in regards to this, specifically if you installed the hotfix on machines that had the SCCM SP2 Admin console installed (which isn’t listed in the article as being applicable for the hotfix)

You need to install it on all site servers that have the features. Software distribution Software update management Desired configuration management Any server that is running the above features cannot provide services during Windows 7 SP1/Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 distributions if you do not install on it. You can consider to install the hotfix on one or more of the site servers for each sites. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
