Question about Outlook Add-in Groups listing source
Hi, I have a question about Outlook Add-in Groups listing, From where [AD or FIM Service DB?] Outlook Add-in [Group Self-service] is pulling the groups list in Join/Leave group popup? Join/Leave group popup is only listing FIM managed groups [provisioned through FIM]; Manually created Distribution/security groups in AD AND groups created in FIM and not synchronized to AD are not shown in the popup list. I stopped the FIM WebService, but still i can see the groups in the popup. so i assumed it is pulling from Active Directory. But i couldn't figure out which attribute in group object is being used for the filter? Actually i want to show only selective groups in the outlook add-in to avoid unnecessary requests. how i can achieve this? Please advice.. Thanks

Hi, FIM Outlook addin uses Exchange address book to search the groups. If the group is not visible in Exchange address lists, then it isn't available in the FIM Outlook Addin. If you wan't to show security groups in Outlook Addin, you can create them as email enabled security groups. You can also modify the FIM Outlook addin settings with GPOs, more info here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/ilm2/thread/9f64deb4-8163-48d2-919e-fc68adf925ca /Lari Lari Savolainen - Sr. Consultant IDM/IAM (www.panoramapartners.fi)

Prakash, My understanding is that the Outlook client will only show mail enabled groups and distribution groups that are managed by FIM. Unfortunately it shows groups that are criteria based and manager based as well as the manually managed groups. Requests to modify the manually managed membership of criteria and manager based groups will be automatically rejected.David Lundell, Get your copy of FIM Best Practices Volume 1 http://blog.ilmbestpractices.com/2010/08/book-is-here-fim-best-practices-volume.html

That's a good tip about the GPO to set which address book it will look in. But email enabled security groups do show up in the GAL by default.David Lundell, Get your copy of FIM Best Practices Volume 1 http://blog.ilmbestpractices.com/2010/08/book-is-here-fim-best-practices-volume.html
