Query Suggestions language dropdown showing Arabic

I can't get query suggestions to work.
I have done all the necessaries (see below)
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/db3b744f-4481-4901-9dae-e610389f33b6/query-suggestions-not-happening?forum=sharepointsearch

One thing I noticed is that when I go into query suggestion settings in central admin the language is set to Arabic, so I change this to Enlish and save settings. When I return to the settings the dropdown value is back to Arabic.

I have no idea if this is part of the original problem or a different one?

Hi ,

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to set Query suggestions using English. Is it right?

Whether the installation lanauge of your SharePoint is Arabic.

I did a test as the followings:

  1. In Query Suggestion settings, the Language for suggestion phrases is English. If I changed it to another language, after saving, it also went back to English(the installation language of my SharePoint is English).
  2. Then I create a text file and type some Chinese words in it (I am not familiar with Arabic).
  3. Go to Query Suggestion settings page, click Import from text file, and import the text file.
  4. Then change the Language for suggestion phrases to Chinese.
  5. Save the settings.
  6. Go to Monitoring->Review job definitions -> Prepare query suggestions->Run Now.
  7. After the timer job completed, go to Search Center, and search using some Chinese words in the text file, the query suggestion showed.

Please firstly import the text file, then choose the language that you used in the text file and save the query suggestion settings. After that, run the timer job Prepare query suggestions.

Thanks Wendy.

I am 99.9% sure that English was the chosen language when installing SharePoint (where can I check to confirm this?)

We don't need to import suggestions, we just want to use the built in suggestions that are based on user's search activity. But we get zero suggestions

Thank you, do you think this may be related to having no query suggestions or would this be a separate issue?
We won't be using the import/export dialogue so the chosen language would not affect us - we do, however, need to get query suggestions working

Hi QPR_JAY,

I think it would be a separate issue. The language is used when we import query suggestion from text file.

For the build-in suggestions, when you search a query and click one result item at least six times, then run the timer job "prepare query suggestions". After that, when you re-search the query, you will see like the screenshot:

Thanks, but the functionality I am looking for is query suggestion in the search box.

So if I type micr in the search box then one suggestion for autocomplete could be Microsoft or microscope

"Summary: Query suggestions are phrases that you want the search system to suggest to users as they start typing a query. This article explains how to switch query suggestions on or off. It also explains how you can add phrases to the automatic query suggestions, and how you can add phrases that should not be used as query suggestions."

Please see the URL in my opening post to see the steps I have tried without success

Hi,

If you want to query suggestions show as the drop-down in Search Box, you need to import the suggestions from a text file as the steps in the article:https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj721441.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 .

If you just search a query and click a result at least six times, it will work like the screenshot in my previous reply.

Wendy
