Pulling photos from the photo field in AD with profile imports
I just recently found a nice piece of software that lets an administrator or two upload pictures into AD for everyone. This is great cause it is cheap and easy to use and looks like it will be perfect for this company's plan to include photos in a variety of applications that we have.Naturally they want these photos to be included in the profile attributes that SharePoint imports. Now I have to ask this question cause things that seem obvious sometimes turn out to be no so much that way.My question is, has anyone successfully used the (MS)Photo field in AD as the source for the photo Data source field to map for the Photo? It seems to me if a photo is in that field, and SharePoint references it, then that is all that we will have to do to get the photo from AD to show up on everyone's profile page. But I suppose there is the off chance that you need to arrange 45 or more other things to make something this simple to work.???

Hi If your picture AD software links pictures to an AD account - the easiest way of making this work, is to have your pictures stored in a Fileshare referenced by a field in AD on a http:// entry, and then have that field exposed into the user profiles property via mapping, using the SharePoint Picture property. The picture property is the one that displays the pictures on mysite by defaultSummary - the Sharepoint picture property could be set as a URL property and holding the target of the picture. The target of the picture would be stored in AD. That AD field would be mapped to the Picture property.Hope this helpsCheersGeoff

I mean to have the picture itself in AD, I don't think I need a URL to reference from SharePoint if I can just reference the photo field. I just want to know if anyone has done this? Someone has had to have had photos in AD that they used in SharePoint.
