I have a problem with public folders.
I made a move-public folded from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010
All replica is ok, and there was nothing left of the old ex 2007 server
I delete Exchange 2007 and when I finish I discover my public folders are gone.
I restore them, but after an hour they are deleted again.
I'm doing a Suspend PublicFolderReplication restore again and again after an hour its all away again.
What do I do to get public folders up and running again, with the old data?
I'm pretty certain that someone has deleted your folders, whether intentionally or unintentionally. What it looks like is that the tombstones, i.e., deleted folder objects, are still present in your hierarchy, so when you restore the database the tombstones, which are newer than the folders you're restoring, are causing the folders to be deleted again. I think you're going to have to do this.
1. Remove all public folders from Exchange 2010.
2. Remove all public folder databases. This gets rid of the hierarchy from everywhere.
3. Create a public folder database on Exchange 2007 using the same name as before.
4. Restore the public folder database.
Once you have public folders back again and they aren't disappearing, then you can create a new public folder database on Exchange 2010 and replicate all content to it again.
Hi Ed
Thanks for your reply.
The 2007 servers are gone and not on the domain anymore.
Can i do it in 2010 ?
Can it be the old replica, from the old server who is not removed from the AD ad now replication a empty database (or those folders who was on the server) to the new.
Or can AD do something if the folders are wrong placed in AD ?
Where was the backup taken? I assumed from your description the backup is from an Exchange 2007 server, which means you'll need a 2007 server to restore it. If the backup was taken from an Exchange 2010 server, then just follow the same procedure in Exchange 2010.
The only thing for public folders that's in AD are objects that link an e-mail address to the folder, objects which contain almost nothing useful. AD doesn't contain any public folder content or permissions, or anything at all for non-mail-enabled public folders.

Okay, here's a slightly modified proposal.
1. Remove all public folders from Exchange 2010.
2. Remove all public folder databases. This gets rid of the hierarchy from everywhere.
3. Create a public folder database on Exchange 2010 using the same name as before.
4. Restore the public folder database and mount it.
I will try that.
Just a bonus question
Can i restore it again when i delete all public folders, the reason i ask i that i tryed to restore it to my test exchange, and i would mount the EDB file
Go back and read the thread. Review what you posted, and review what I assumed you meant. If you don't think that we have an understanding, then don't do what I'm suggesting. I can only advise you based on what you disclose.
