Hello everybody,in general configuration as well as for the WSUS-component of SCE, we can define if a proxy authentification is required for accessing the internet an so being able to contact microsoft servers, in oder to synchronize our updates repository.We have to provide username, password and the domain in order to complete the wizard an save the changed configuration.We need a workaround due to the fact, the our proxy authentification doesn't need a domain name. We just provide a user and a password; this user is NOT AD-integrated.But as I mentioned, we can't save this information, because we HAVE to provide a domain name to go on within the wizard.Which config files or database entries are affected by this wizard, so we could change configuration there?Or is there any other workaround?Thank you!

Hi, Regarding the Proxy Server configuration in SCE server, on the Proxy Server page of the wizard, the user specifies the proxy server settings that the Essentials server will use to connect to the Internet. The user must specify the proxy server name and port number, and can include credentials to use when connecting to the proxy server. This setting can also be configured in the Update Management Configuration Wizard or under Administration Settings Update Management Proxy Server in the Essentials console.This is stored in the tbConfigurationA table in the SUSDB database and the GlobalSettings table in the OperationsManager database. At this point, I would like to confirm if the user you are using for credentials is not AD-integrated? Then is the proxy server also a non-domain(workgroup) server? If so, how does the proxy server recognize and authenticate that user? Have you tried using the proxy server's NetBios name or IP address in the Domain box? Hi Robbin,we have implemented SCE in a customer's Network which uses a non-AD integrated proxy server.We don't even know if this is a Microsoft machine; if we want to access the internet an so configured our browser to use this proxy, the first time you open a website, you have to provide a username and a password.That's all.We just tried this server's IP Adress as the domain name...Unfortunatley, that's not working, to.If you need any more information, don't hesitate to ask for.

By the way, you may also want to experiment with leaving the proxy blank in SCE and using proxycfg.exe to set the system proxy settings (proxycfg p proxyservername). Hi Robbin,after some investigation, I found out that the machine working as proxy server ist just a simple server hosting a certain proxy software. The users allowed / disallowed to contact the internet are configured within the proxy software which does not use any windows authentification or built-in users.So local admins decided to go the "easy way", plugging in a DSL-cable each an every month to get the updates via an extra dsl line... well... whatever... ;-)So you will understand that unfortunately none of your suggestions worked... but nevertheless... thanks a lot!

J The machine working as proxy server is generally a simple server hosting a certain proxy software and act as Proxy server. However, if it has been joined into a domain e.g. a Windows 2003 server with Microsoft ISA server installed, we can use Windows authentication for ISA server proxy authentication. Did anyone ever get an answer as to whether you can setup SCE2010 to use a non-domain proxy server? The wizard only allows Domain joined proxy servers. We use a Unix Squid Proxy/Firewall combination which is not domain integrated. Cheers, Steve
