Protect confidential files from SharePoint admin access
Hi, I am going to implement SharePoint Server 2007 in my company. I want to know if it is possible to protect confidential files from anyone access (including farm admin). I beleive that I need something more secure than regular permissions (because they can be modified by farm admin for example). I think I have to implement some kind of encryption on my files but it should be transparent for end-users. I found IRM can do this for me so I deployed it in my SharePoint server but it seems that nothing changed! Still the farm admin user accesses all files that I downloaded from my document library because it's account exists in the issuance license off all these files. Does IRM really help me anyway?

Properly implemented, IRM should give you the control you need. Be aware that, unless you are the supreme domain admin, you will have to trust somebody. Some admin will always have the keys to the content. The way this is handled in the real world is that this admin is made aware of the sensitivity of the content and that they won't have access to the content. They have the ability to GIVE themselves access to the content, but with auditing enabled, you would know if they ever do this. It is normal for such infringements to be a "terminate employment" activity in such extreme cases. The bottom line is... if you can't trust your admin, who do you trust? I trust that answers your question... Thanks C http://www.cjvandyk.com/blog
