Promoting SCE server to a DC
Good Day, I may have to promote my SCE 2010 server to a DC (2008R2 RTM) I have seen some issues or at least one issue of permision problems. Are there any other issues that people are aware of that can affect the setup of SCE or the DC by having both on the same system? Most likly will be DC (AD and DNS plus DHCP). Thanks Adam Raff

Hello Adam, You can install all components of SCE 2010 on a Domain Controller. However, you must consider the performance issue. For more details about supported topologies and performance guidance , please see: Supported Topologies and Performance Guidance for System Center Essentials 2010 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb422797.aspx Thanks, Yog Li -- Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi, I understand that I can install it on a DC my question was what are the pit falls be if I make the system a DC. I have a SCE server and I need another DC so I will DCPromo it to make the SCE server a DC. What issues can arise or pitfalls can happen. Is it common that after such a upgrade SCE, will break and I will have to reinstall or repair some features. I have a choice this is good choice but I do not have to use this system. Thanks Adam Raff

Hello Adam, I have no experience to prompt a SCE server to a DC. I would not suggest you doing this if you want 100 percent reliability of SCE functionality. If you have no other option, do it at your own risk. In this scenario, I would suggest you the following articles to backup the SCE server: Backup and Restore of System Center Essentials http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc974131.aspx If there is a failure, a recent data backup can help reduce interruption to the business activities. I wanted to thank all of you for your help there is no right or wrong answer in this but it gave me something to think about and I decided to promote another server which I feel has less risk. Thanks Adam Raff
