Promoting RMS fails
I am replacing hardware in my OM environment. Used the securestoragebackup to backup the key on the current RMS (2003r2 x64) Used the securestoragebackup to resoter the key on the RMS (2008R2 x64) Used ManagementServerConfigTool to PromoteRMS The response I recieve is this: Warning: the OMSDK service on RMS as set to Auto Unable to retrieve management group information on RMS. I have tried all kinds of permutations of this, but I cannot for the life of me figure this out. Things I have researched in the attempt to fix this: Issues with SPNs, I have fixed the config accounts SPN rights Issues with connectivity between the two servers I am at a loss. Daren Daigle

Daren, the process follows a logic along these lines. The existing RMS has to demote and give control of the SDK and Config service to an existing MS. On the existing MS in normal operation the two RMS services are set to dissabled (SDK & Config). These have to be able to start and connect to the DB. Is there something stopping these services starting? I know the process will stop the services on the old RMS but I am not sure if it will set their startup type to disabled? and if it doesn't does it have the power to change the startup type on your new RMS to be.. so are you running the cmd from an elevated cmd? let me know how you get on Paul Keely

Hi, Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Ensure the network connectivity and communications between the servers are OK. 2. Please ensure you are using the SCOM Administrator account to perform the operations. 3. Try again referring to the following guide: How to Promote a Management Server to a Root Management Server Role in Operations Manager 2007 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc540401.aspx Hope this helps.
