Hi all,

I want to create a button using promoted links to create a new news article (publishing page). The link works fine when the front page where the button is until I publish it. It is set to open in a dialog box. The other links works fine all the time (these are set to navigate to page).

Also, if I start creating a new page by using the New Page button on the cogwheel and cancel this the link works fine until i refresh the page.

Anyone experienced something like this before and/or know what might be the problem?

Hi Knut,

Could your provide more details about the issue to your "Promoted link" button?

When I create a "Promoted link" item pointing to "http://server/site/_layout/15/CreatedPublishingPageDialog.aspx" (the same link of "Add a Page" in cogwheel), the "Promoted link" button can be clicked to create a new publishing page like the "Add a Page" in cogwheel, you can check if the "Link Location".

I am having the same issue but I am just using a regular hyperlink. It works fine after I click save from editing, but as soon as I publish it, it no longer works.

Here is the code I am using to open in Modal lightbox:

Thanks for the reply. I had made the link as you have shown but as I said it does not work correctly. 

The link works fine aslong as the page where I added the webapp is not published. As soon as I publish the page it stops working, but then if I use the cogwheel to get the dialog box to create a new page and then exit out of this dialog the link works fine until I refresh the page. This leads me to think that the promoted link is unable to create a dialog box for some reason. 

I have changed this link to open in the page and this works fine but I would still like to find the reason/solution to this in case I run into this problem another time where opening it in the page is not an acceptable way to go. Could this have something to do with the design I recently added perhaps?

I know this is an old thread, but I have just bumped into the same problem.

Well almost. The option "Dialog" works on some sites with publishing enabled but not on others. This is most annoying, as we need both the features of publishing sites and the "Dialog" option to work at the same time (as they do on other sites).

The two publishing sites are located in different web applications on the same server farm. I have checked all of the settings I could find on both site collections and they seem to be the same. Any hints as to how to solve this would be appreciated.

UPDATE: Click on "Show ribbon" on the page. This allows the Promoted links to open in dialogs for publishing pages where they don't work. However, hiding or showing the ribbon on other publishing sites where open in dialog does actually work, does not have any effect.

Looks like a proper bug to me.
